Frequently Asked Questions

What is the cost for membership?

Each Regional Association is responsible for the annual cost and renewal date.  Respective costs and dates can be found on each Regional Association registration form.

How do you sign up to be a member?

All new members must fill out a membership application for their current residing Regional Association.

When is the deadline to become a member?

Each Regional Association has different renewal periods.  Please contact the Membership Coordinator from your residing association to determine membership deadlines.

Do I need to be a member in order to compete at sanctioned CDS events?

Yes. You must be a member in good standing with CDS or a recognized WDSF National Member Body in order to compete at sanctioned events.

How do I know if I am already a registered member of DanceSport?

You will be provided with confirmation from the Regional DanceSport Association and a membership ID.  If you are not sure, please contact your residing Regional Association membership coordinator.

I am not a Canadian citizen, can I still compete at CDS sanctioned events?

You are ineligible to compete at sanctioned CDS National Qualifier or National Championship events that provide winners with Team Canada, WDSF World Championship, Olympic, or any other world level representation.

I am not 16 years of age or older, can I still compete at CDS sanctioned events?

Unless otherwise specified for youth competitions, competitors born on or before December 31, 2008 are eligible to compete at sanctioned CDS National Qualifier or National Championship events that provide winners with Team Canada, WDSF World Championship, Olympic, or any other world level representation. Youth members born after December 31, 2008 are eligible to compete at Regional Qualifying events, but will not be eligible for National point accrual.

What does being a member of DanceSport provide?

All registered members are permitted to compete in sanctioned CDS Breaking competitions across Canada and sanctioned WDSF member body events internationally.  Registered members of DanceSport are provided with official athlete recognition and statistical recording for Canadian ranking purposes.  All registered members of DanceSport will be provided with membership rates for all Sport Canada, CDS, and Breaking Canada supported events, workshops, and programming.  Members are also permitted to compete and record statistics from other WDSF Breaking events organized in other countries.  All members that choose to compete at WDSF organized events must also obtain a WDSF Athlete ID card.

Do I have to renew my membership next year?

Unless otherwise by the Region, all Regional DanceSport Association memberships are valid until December 31st of the registered year.  Competitors with invalid membership status and not in good standing with CDS and Breaking Canada will not be eligible for membership benefits such as rankings, preferred rates, etc, until such time that the athlete membership is fully renewed and when the athlete is in good standing with CDS and Breaking Canada.
