Breaking Into The Olympics: Vancouver Hosts the Canada DanceSport National Championship

Canada, are you ready to step into the spotlight?

This summer, Vancouver plays host to the Canada DanceSport (CDS) National Championship. And it's not just any dance event.. We're talking about Breakers on a quest to showcase their talent to the world and eventually... the Olympics! That's right. With breaking making its debut at the 2024 Paris Olympic games, our national final stands as a significant milestone towards the world finals and the coveted Olympic stage.

Repping our nation, we have the dancers from our hometown qualifier DanceSport British Columbia (DSBC) , DanceSport Alberta (DSAB), Ontario DanceSport (ODS), DanceSport Quebec (DSQC), and the Atlantic Breaking Series (ABA). Talent from across the country are ready to showcase their style, right here on Vancouver soil.

Here's are the current rankings: For the men, Phil Wizard is in the lead with 161 points, followed by Illz at 66, Mass at 55, JC Fresh at 46, and Onton at 41. Our ladies ranking starts, with DeepFriedTiff leading at 136 points, trailing Emma at 94, SashaFox at 57, Hifi at 25, and B-Nice at 24.

How do these dancers get these points? The guidelines mean that only points scored in the last 12 months count. And challenge, International and World level events provide a lot more lot more value.

Be reminded that we only take the best two (2) results for each of the BfG sanctioned events and only the best one (1) from the National Championship.

The stakes are high in Vancouver - the Canadian Bboy and Bgirl Champions, along with the top point earner as of July 1st, 2023, will jet off to Belgium to represent Canada at the WDSF World Breaking Championships in September. Yes, you read it right. This is the road to Paris 2024!

As for the main event, the CDS National Championship, it's all happening right here in Vancouver. Judged by the brilliant Lazy legs, Eloquence, Mezu, JK47, and Tazzmanio, with Geoff @sirblurr as our MC, it promises to be a historical event.
